Maharashtra Civil Services (MCS) Examination

Maharashtra Civil Services (MCS) Examination is conducted by Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) for the recruitment of candidates for various administrative posts in the state government departments.

Maharashtra Civil Services Exam Eligibility Criteria

  1. Candidate should be a citizen of India.

  2. He must have the permanent domicile in the state of Maharashtra to get the reservation benefits.

  3. Candidates must have successfully completed their graduation from a recognized university or institute.

  4. The age of the candidate should be between 19 to 33 years. However, there is a relaxation in the upper age limit of the candidates belonging to the reserved category (PwD category is 45 years, OBC category 36 years and SC/ST category 38 years).

Maharashtra Civil Services Exam Pattern

The Maharashtra Civil Services Exam Pattern will be conducted in three stages viz.
  1. Preliminary examination
  2. Main examination
  3. Personal Interview

Paper II (Compulsory)

Maharashtra Civil Services Exam Syllabus

Preliminary examination

In the preliminary examination, candidates will get the question from the given topics in each question paper. The details of the subjects have been given in the following points:

Paper I – (200 marks)
  1. Current events of state, national and international importance.
  2. History of India (with special reference to Maharashtra) and Indian National Movement.
  3. Maharashtra, India and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic Geography of Maharashtra, India and the World.
  4. Maharashtra and India – Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Urban Governance, Public Policy, Rights issues, etc.
  5. Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
  6. General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change-that do not require subject specialization.
  7. General Science.
Paper II – (200 marks)
  1. Comprehension
  2. Interpersonal skills including communication skills.
  3. Logical reasoning and analytical ability.
  4. Decision – making and problem – solving.
  5. General mental ability.
  6. Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (Charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. – Class X level)
  7. Marathi and English Language Comprehension skills (Class X/XII level).

Main Examination

The question paper of the main examination will be of descriptive nature comprising question papers of General Study, optional papers, essay, and the question papers of languages.

Personal Interview

After qualifying the main examination, candidates are eligible to appear in the personal Interview assessment to test the knowledge of the candidate on a particular topic.

Maharashtra Civil Services Exam Application Process

  1. Candidates are required to download the application form from the official website of the commission.

  2. Fill up all the information with appropriate details such as the name, address and the details of the educational qualifications etc.

  3. Upload the scanned copies of the recent passport size photograph and signature.

  4. It is advisable to save the application form for the future reference.

  5. The application process is finally complete with the payment of the application fees through online mode such as credit card, debit card and net banking.
