National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM)

Established in 2006, the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) carries out a wide range of capacity building activities at various levels aimed at enhancing the quality standards of and increase the participation in the securities markets. The institute’s six schools of excellence and the National Center for Financial Education works in synergy towards professionalized securities markets.

The Six Schools of Excellence are:
  • School for Securities Education (SSE)
  • School for Certification of Intermediaries (SCI)
  • School for Regulatory Studies and Supervision (SRSS)
  • School for Investor Education and Financial Literacy (SIEFL)
  • School for Corporate Governance (SCG)
  • School for Securities Information and Research (SSIR)

Academic Programs in NISM

Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Securities Markets)

Launched in 2017, PGDM (SM) is an AICTE approved two-year post-graduate diploma programme (equivalent to MBA) where the students get exposure to varied subjects and verticals of securities markets including Economics, Financial Statement Analysis, Corporate Finance, Portfolio Management, Equity Valuation, Fixed Income Securities, Derivatives & Risk Management, Investment Banking, Mutual Funds, and Wealth Management, benchmarked with the best and contemporary texts. 

Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Financial Technology) 

PGDM (FinTech) programme is positioned to develop future CIOs, to develop resources having both “Technology” and “Domain Knowledge” of Financial Market for organizations like Securities Market Intermediaries, Financial Institutions and other private organizations dealing with FinTech.

Admission in PGDM (FinTech) and PGDM (SM)

The candidates are required to qualify in anyone of the following all India Common Admission Tests i.e. CAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA, MAT, GMAT or MH-CET and to submit valid test score. The decision of the Selection Committee of NISM on cut-off scores for selection will be final in this regard.

Selection Procedure
Based on the above assessment, applicants will be called for a Written examination and Personal Interview.

Post-Graduate Programme in Securities Markets (PGPSM)

The program gives extensive coverage of various subjects related to securities market which will help the students to have a career as an Analyst in Equity research, Fixed Income research or trader, Derivatives and valuation desk, Client relationship, Portfolio management, Investment banking roles – fund raising, legal, compliance, surveillance, legal, Treasury, Forex and commercial banking roles, etc. The programme will provide professionals to the various industries viz. AMCs, NBFCs, Commercial banks, Business news and media, IT sector companies, Corporate governance advisors, Investment Banks and other capital market intermediaries.

Graduate in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks from a University recognised by UGC or equivalent under 10 plus 2 plus 3 stream.

In addition to the above, candidates should fulfil atleast one of the following three requirements:
  • Minimum 2 years of full time work experience, or
  • Post Graduate in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks from a University recognised by UGC, or
  • Has completed atleast intermediate or 2nd Level, of any of the professional qualifications like CA, CMA, CS, or CFA (offered by the CFA Institute).

Selection Procedure

Only the shortlisted applicants would be eligible for the second stage of essay writing/GD/personal interview.

Post Graduate Diploma in Quantitative Finance (PGDQF)

PGDQF is a one-year full time Post-Graduate Diploma aimed at creating the next generation Quant, Financial Engineers and Risk management specialist. For students interested in banks, broker dealers, hedge funds, pension funds, asset managers, technology firms, regulators, accounting, consulting and law firms, and universities across the globe. 

Academic qualification

The minimum required academic qualification is graduation – a bachelor’s degree from a university recognized by UGC or equivalent with a minimum of 50% in aggregate with the exposure of mathematics at 10 plus 2 level

Stage I – Online Application

Stage II – Essay Writing and Personal Interview

The essay writing will be administered to short-listed applicants on the day of the personal interview. The one-page essay shall be on a contemporary topic to be disclosed, administered and completed in 10 minutes prior to the conduct of the interview. The essay topic shall be from any event covered in any Indian financial daily in the past one year, to assess clarity of expression through written communication skills.

Post Graduate Diploma in Data Science (PGDDS)

Post Graduate Diploma in Data Science is a nine month part-time programme aimed at creating the next generation Analyst and Data Scientist. For students interested in analytics, technology firms, regulators, consulting and universities across the globe. PGDDS is an extremely unique opportunity to obtain first-hand knowledge, both theoretical and practical.

Certificate in Treasury Management (CTM) 

The Certificate in Treasury Management (CTM) is designed to provide a detailed insight into the treasury functions and managing treasury activities. It will provide a wide range of managerial, technical and behavioural skills to the participants to prepare themselves for the role of a treasury professional.

Certificates in Securities Law (CSL)

CSL is a 3½ months, week-end classroom programme for working Executives designed to enable the participant to understand the critical securities market processes, such as legal, due diligence and compliance. Those with a background in law will appreciate securities market inputs, and conversely, those with a securities market background will better understand compliance and due diligence. 

Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Engineering and Risk Management (PGDFERM)

PGDFERM is an executive programme designed for working professionals who wish to hone their skills in treasury and risk management functions. The PGDFERM programme will be offered by NISM and DOE, University of Mumbai at Vashi.
