National Fire Service College Nagpur (NFSC Nagpur)

The idea of opening a Training College for Fire Service personnel of the country was laid in 1950 which resulted in the foundation of National Fire service college in 1956 at Rampur, U.P. It was later shifted to the present  Nagpur. The National Fire Service College, Nagpur functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi. The National Fire Service College, is the only institution of its kind in the country and is required to cater to the needs of the entire country.

Functions of NFSC Nagpur

The college awards Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma on successful completion of the course, which are recognized by the State and Central Government as well as the Public sector undertaking and the Business Community as well. It also awards Diploma and Advanced Diploma which is recognized by the Union Public Service Commission for appointment in the middle management cadre.

BE Fire course was started in 1978 under the affiliation to Nagpur University. These young engineers are picked up by reputed industries and major public sectors, considered to be the Navrathnas of Government of India.  On completion of the course the B.E. (Fire ) Degree is recognized by UPSC for Indian Engineering Service Examination.

However, the course is redesigned and now admission is made on the basis of JEE Mains. Earlier the duration of the course was three and half years and now it is 4 years. 

Admission in NFSC Nagpur

Admission is done based on the All India ranking of the respective year, allotted by the CBSE based the JEE (Main) examination.

B.E ( Fire Engineering ) course requires strenuous fire ground operation involving physical activities, training of various natures, and that too in uniform, the applicant are required to possess specific medical and physical standards. 

Eligibility Criteria 

Candidate should be Indian National and should have passed Class 12 examination of any State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with subjects English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/Biotechnology /Biology/ Technical Vocational subject and Secured minimum 45% marks (minimum 40% marks, in case of SC/ST/OBC categories) in the subjects Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/Biotechnology /Biology/ Technical Vocational subject added together and Obtained All India Rank in JEE (Main).

Physical Standard

For Male 
Minimum Height : 165 cms.(Relaxable by 5 cms in the case of Garhwalls, 
Assamese Gorkha and member of the Schedule Tribes.) 

Chest : 81 cms. Unexpanded and 86 cms. Expanded ( Fully expanded with minimum of 5 cms Expansion) 

Weight : min. 50 kgs. 

For Female
Minimum Height : 157 .(Relaxable by 2.5 cms in the case of Garhwalls, 
Assamese Gorkha and member of the Schedule Tribes.) 

Weight : min. 46 kgs.

Facilities in NFSC

NFSC is equipped with laboratories which have the latest instrument and equipment. The wireless communication laboratory consists of almost all kind of Radio Receivers, Instruments such as static and Mobile Radios, Walkie Talkie sets, Chargers, wave Analyzers and all other communication equipments that are used by the Fire Officers. NFSC library about 10,000 technical and other allied books are available, most of these are on Fire Safety Engineering. The College also subscribes to a large number of journals and magazines relating to fire engineering and its current trends and latest developmental activates from countries like USA and UK.
