Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune (IISER Pune) was established in 2006. It is one of the five Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research of India representing a unique initiative in India where teaching and education are totally integrated with state-of-the-art research nurturing both curiosity and creativity in an intellectually vibrant atmosphere of research.

Academic Programmes in IISER Pune
BS-MS Degree Programme
This five year degree program is for students who have exceptional result at the 10 plus 2. It integrates classroom learning with research and provides a lot of scope for multidisciplinary interactions. The first two years of the program consist of core subjects in basic sciences, the third and fourth years are for specialization in chosen science subjects and the fifth year includes a research project. The training during the program enables students to pursue a career in academia, R&D institutes, and science-based industries.
Master of Science (MSc) programme
The two-year Master of Science (MSc) programme at IISER Pune started in the Academic year 2022-2023. It is aimed at highly motivated students with a bachelor's degree in any branch of science, who are interested in an intense in-depth enquiry in specialized areas of research and education, as available in different Departments in IISER Pune.
Integrated Ph.D. Programme
IISER Pune integrates PhD (i-PhD) as a research programme with a combination of course work (2 years) and research projects to students who have completed a Bachelors' degree in any branch of science. On successful completion, students will be awarded both a Masters of Science and a PhD degree.
PhD Programme
The PhD programme at IISER Pune is a blend of class room curriculum and mentoring under-graduate students along with a major research component. IISER Pune admits students to doctoral programme in the following departments:

- Physics
- Humanities & Social Sciences
In addition to the qualifying degree, the students should have qualified a national examination such as CSIR-UGC NET/GATE/JEST/NBHM/JGEEBILS, etc. depending on their area of research interest. Students will be selected to the PhD programme based on performance in the interviews.
Research at IISER focuses on the following major disciplines of science: Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Climate Science, Mathematics and Physics. Interdisciplinary research is also encouraged. In additions, with an aim to diminish the divide between natural sciences and humanities, IISER Pune has also initiated a Humanities and Social Sciences programme.
